We are able to share a wood firing with the Halswell potters group in Candys Road, Halswell. We would like members to share this experience of chopping wood for fuel and spend a couple of hours stoking the kiln on July 28th. This is a great opportunity to try something different Pots can be made with LF18, Macs white, or clay that fires to 1300c. These will be bisqued in early July in our kilns. On Tuesday 10th July, club night, we will have a glazing night with your pots. The glazes available are a Shino & a Celedon. We will also have several washes. Types of work can be vases, jugs, cups, whimsical, sculptural type work but, no bowls or plates as this type of firing can leave rough marks inside the work. Outside roughness is ok. Check out websites on wood firings. If you're interested we will need about 10 people or more for this to happen.email mtpleasantpottery@gmail.com to book. Committee Meeting 13 Dec 2017
As we didn't have a quorum at the proposed AGM, inn November, we couldn't have a legal election. I welcome the new members who have joined the committee to help until we have a special AGM when they can be formally elected. We need to encourage the members to attend the special AGM in March as with out a chairman and secretary with the treasurer they are the official office bearers. I will continue as chairman until march then resign or elect a new chairman. Our first meeting will be held at 7.30 on DEC 13 with new members at the rooms; that is when the Wed class has finished for the year and it is best to hold the meetings in the rooms if we can. Agenda Discuss the positions of chairman, secretary, hub representative; this last position is important to us as it is in the rent agreement that all tenants have one or two people to attend the monthly meetings. These are usually on a Friday morning. (No decisions to be made at these meetings; bring them to the committee to decide what part the members will take) Clean up day Sat 27 January, 2018 Work programme and the number of people required to do it. Classes Start Monday 12th February 2018, 7.00 to 9.30pm for 8 weeks, Wednesday morning 14th, 10.00am to 12.30pm, 8 weeks and Thursday 15th 7 to 9.30, 8 weeks. The final lessons will be during the week beginning the 2nd April, 2018. Tutors will be appointed before then. Tutors have applied for Monday and Thursday classes. This will be discussed with Ken, Shona, Brenda and Graham during December. Wednesday tutor is Shona Clarkson. Perhaps children’s holiday classes this year could have a 10 to 13yrs and 13 to 16yrs as these age groups haven't participated in any of our holiday classes . Special AGM in March 2018 Notices to go out to the members to discus possible amendments to our constitution and the election of office bearers. This is a must or we will find it difficult to operate as a club. Web site Class information, newsletters on our Club News page and the first term’s programme on our Diary page. We have a Gallery page; discussion for photography members and class works. Meeting Rule If there is any other business to be raised at our committee meetings, email the details of your proposal and a resolution of the proposal to the chairperson, Shona, so that it may be inserted into the agenda. This achieves two outcomes; efficient meetings because members can prepare to discuss it and if the subject is important enough, it should be on the agenda. Having a resolution to a proposal indicates a members commitment to the idea. Cheers - Shona Chairperson, MPPG |
