The Mt Pleasant Pottery Group was established in 1960 and now has an active membership of over 60. Classes, group activities, demonstrations, monthly meetings and workshops are held throughout the year and attract people from all over Christchurch and beyond.

A well equipped studio and kiln yard are located at the Mt Pleasant Community Centre, about 8kms from the centre of Christchurch. The studio is located on a landscaped reserve on the edge of the picturesque tidal estuary of the Avon and Heathcote Rivers, which run through the city.
Potters, from those who are nationally recognised and experienced through to those just beginning belong to the club. New members are always welcome.
Equipment in the studio includes 4 electric kilns, 12 wheels, a slab roller, extruder and a spray booth. Outside there is a kiln yard with a fast fire Olsen wood kiln, 10 cu ft gas kiln, diesel-fired salt glazing kiln, pit fire and raku kilns.
